We had considered adding another dog to our family for years but were in no hurry as we already have one aging golden who we adore.  

We wanted a perfect fit with our family and active lifestyle - going between a chill suburban city life in Burlington ON to active northern adventures in Tobermory ON.   We had a long list of important qualities:  solid temperament to get along with our young kids, easy going to handle changes in situations, great trainability especially for off-leash swimming and hiking, and so on...  a never-ending list that was tough to match.

As we researched breeders and followed the links of the most beautiful goldens, we kept finding Golden Retriever Haven.  We had never considered getting a pup sight unseen - or from another province - however, once we read the reviews and saw the photos, we had to inquire.  It was clear from the outset that Allan's priorities were breeding beautiful dogs with exceptional health and solid temperaments.  He spent time to get to know our family and to discuss his approach to breeding and raising pups.  Allan said that once you capture a puppy's heart, he/she will do anything for you.  His love-first principal won us over completely - as if we weren't already!

Allan understood our needs and applied his deep experience to help select a pup with the right temperament for our family.  He kept us up to date on our pup and managed all the travel arrangements to safely fly our pup to Ontario.  He always thoughtfully responded to our multiple texts and endless questions and made us feel supported - and, now, with a 6 month old pup, he continues to respond to our texts and shows how much he genuinely cares. 

We could not be happier with our pup, Cognac - she has exceeded our expectations in every way.  She is now 6 months old and has a sweet and funny personality, is very eager to learn and mastered her basic commands and house training within two weeks of joining our family.  She checks in with us when experiencing a new situation and adapts with ease.  She is a natural swimmer,  loves to fetch and she is quiet and relaxed around the house during workdays.  Most importantly, she has a solid temperament - she has naturally developed a special relationship with each member of our family and cuddles and plays to the level of each person's preference.  People are constantly complimenting her beauty and commenting on how well she responds for a 6 month old pup.  

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Allan and we recommend Golden Retriever Haven with out hesitation.  And, when the day comes that we are ready for another dog, Allan will be our only call.
